Shop update #425 (1-1-26)

We made more progress on my son’s shelf unit this weekend.  We have 4 – 2′ x 4′ sheets of 1/4″ plywood fo the backing on the 2 main shelf units.  We stained them on Saturday and let them dry overnight.

We then gave them their first coat of water based polyurethane on Sunday afternoon.

Before we clear coated them, we made a stop by LOWES and picked up a 1 x 8 x 96 board pf clear pine and ripped it down into strips to use for a face frame.  We will be staining and clear coating them next weekend to match the backs.

I’ve also been working on pieces for Gallifrey One art show coming up in February.  These are both based on the symbol for the planet of Gallifrey, which is the home of the Time Lords.

I’m going to add some paint to this one.

This one is based on 4″ mirrors with a face frame that fills in the missing parts.  I’m still debating whether I like it better with the external etching or with out.  The mirrors had to be etched in reverse for everything to line up correctly.

As part of the process, I made a material test grid on one of the mirrors and it ran a little too hot.
