Shop update #428 (1-21-26)

A friend of mine works for the POWER BASS speaker company and asked me to make him a new faceplate for their speaker display case.

This is what the old one looked like.

He sent me over an Adobe Illustrator file with all of the dimensions and speaker cutout out locations.

I stopped by Home Depot and had them cut down a full sheet of 1/2″ MDF into 3 – 32×48 inch pieces.

We decided to make just one with all of the speaker holes cut out first to make sure that it has all of the correct dimensions and fits in the display correctly.

The main problems is that it needs to be 32 7/16″ tall by 29 13/16″ wide.  My CNC machine can only handle sheets about 28 1/2″ x 28 1/2″.  I took the first piece and cut it down to the finish size on my table saw.  I then took that piece to the CNC machine and cut out all of the speaker holes.  I had to move the 3 holes on the right about 3/4 of an inch down so that the top hole would fit inside the cutting area.

While the CNC was cutting out the holes, I designed a 12″ x 12″ piece with one rounded corner to match what was in the original design.

I then used that as a template for my trim router and rounded off all of the corners.

The face plate was picked up and test fit into the display case and it was perfect!  I am now going to make them 5 more blanks cut to the right dimensions and they can be used for future setups.

The employees will be painting and finishing the MDF for the final display.
