Shop update #434 (3-4-26)

Do you remember the speaker faceplate for Power Bass that I made a while back?  I also owe them 5 more blanks for future use.  They are in no rush to get them but I finally got the time to get them done.  I had Home Depot cut the 1/2″ MDF sheets into 3 – 32″ x 48″ blanks to make them easy to transport home.  The finished dimensions need to be 29 3/4″ by 32 1/2″ with 1 1/2″ rounded corners.  The full sheets had been abused so I cut off the edge at 31″ on one side and then down to the final 29 3/4″ on the opposite side.

My table saw can cut to a mx width of about 33 3/4″ so I trimmed all the pieces to that width and then flipped them around and cut the opposite side at 32 1/2″.  That way, all four sides were cut on my saw with a reasonably straight fence on it.  When cutting sheet goods, the over the blade dust collection is priceless.

I then took my corner template and trim router and rounded off all four corners, 1 at a time, on the first piece.

Once that first piece was done, I used it as a template for the other 4.  I could trim 3 corners on the first pass and then rotate it to get the last corner.  They should be picking them up within the next week or so.

MDF is nasty stuff so I had all my safety gear on and the air filter going as well.

My son and I have also been working on his shelving unit.  We built up the 2 shelf units for the sides and installed the face frames.  We then installed the cleats for the shelves that run between the 2 units and also installed the shelves.  Face frames are next for the center shelves.

The strip on top still needs to be cut down to size, painted, and have the face frame attached to 3 sides.  You can see the backs for the 2 side shelving units behind the center of the unit.  We have all the shelves for the sides cut and painted but they also need the face frames attached.  We are getting close to finishing it!
