Shop update #435 (3-11-26)
I received an order for 8 more AOL plaques last week so I stopped by Lowes and picked up up 2 – 8 foot lengths of 1×8 clear pine. The first step was to mark the middle of each board and cut them down to 4 – 4 foot lengths using my home made table saw sled.

Once I had them cut in half, I set up a stop block on the table saw to help prevent the wood from binding and potentially causing kickback. I then set the fence to just a little under 23 7/8″ and cut the 4 boards down into 8 boards.

My son and I installed the edge banding for for the central spans on his shelf unit. We also trimmed the rear walls down to size and nailed them to backs of the 2 outer shelf units.

Once that was done we took removed the center shelves and took the pieces upstairs to his room and reassembled them. We also used 2 – 1 1/4″ screws on each side to attach them to the wall so they don’t fall on him while he is sleeping. We still need to cut, paint, and attach the edge banding to the plywood board that will span the top of the unit to make 1 giant shelf. We also have 5 adjustable shelves for the sides units that are waiting for the edge banding to be attached.
