Shop update #436 (3-18-26)
During the week, I engraved all 8 AOL plaques on my X-Carve CNC machine.
I started by engraving the arrows first with a 1/8″ straight bit. Each one took about 30 minutes.

Once all the arrows were carved out, I switched to a 1/16″ bit and carved all the words/names. Those took anywhere from 19 to 25 minutes each depending on the length of the name.

We had 5 shelves for my son’s shelf unit already cut to the proper dimensions so we cut the edge banding down to the proper length and glued and nailed it to the front of each one.

You can never have too many shelves so we made 2 more small ones and started painting a long shelf to go on top.

I started designing a silverware drawer organizer for my kitchen but then found a plastic one for $15 on Amazon. It expands to fill the space left and right but is 15″ tall in a 20″ space so it slides up when the drawer is closed. I designed some quick boxes made out of 1/8″ MDF, cut them on the laser, assembled them, and installed them to close the gap, all in about 45 minutes. I still plan on making a custom wooden organizer but this takes the pressure off and I can take my time to build it.

Last but not least, I attended an Eagle Scout Court of Honor this weekend and they borrowed the Eagle Scout sign that I made for my son’s ECOH back in Feb of 2025. This sign has now been used in 5 different ECOH’s in 3 different Troops.
