Shop update #437 (3-25-26) AOL plaques and Apothecary Boxes

I finished and delivered the 8 AOL paques for Pack 803.

I started by giving the top edges a slight chamfer on my router table.  I specifically chose the tops of the plaques to contain any dings or dents so they could be trimmed off in this process.

I then gave them a good coat of semi gloss spray paint and let them dry overnight.

The next day, I sanded the tops and bottoms with 60 grit sandpaper to get the paint off .

I then laser etched the BSA and AOL logs onto each one.

After the etching was finished, I gave them a final sanding with 120 grit paper and a coat of golden oak stain.

I left them outside to dry in the sun for 4 or 5 hours and then gave them 2 coats of spray lacquer on the backs and 3 coats on the front.  I let them dry overnight and then installed the hooks and sawtooth hangers.

During all of the drying times for the plaques, I broke out the carcass for the drawer unit that my son and I had been working on last year.  The 2 units and the 42 drawers were hanging out in different parts of the shop so I consolidated them into one space.

I took measurements and cut out all drawers faces out of 3mm mdf.  I used a bunch of scrap and 1 test piece that I had engraved while designing weeping angels for the Doctor Who convention.

I made a template and used that to punch divots into all 40 drawer faces.

I used super glue to attach the face to each drawer.

Once the superglue dried, I gave them a couple of coats of spray lacquer.

I am very happy with the finished product.
