Shop update #439 (4-8-26)

A friend of mine races dirt bikes and one of the classes that he runs is named “2×4”.  It was his turn to supply trophies so commissioned me to make them for him.  He came up with the idea of Pinocchio saying a certain phrase so I designed up a trophy for him.  It is based on a 2 layer plaque being inset into a piece of 2×4 wood.

I started by cutting all the pieces out of 1/8″ MDF on my laser.

I then painted the backs a metallic silver and the border ring red.

The rings, character, and word bubble were then glued to the backer board.

I cut pieces of 2×4 wood down to 12″ and laser engraved the classes onto the front of each one along with the logo of the club that hosts the event.

The 4 pieces then got a coat of black semi gloss spray paint.

I let them dry out in the sun for 6 hours and then sanded off the paint with 60 grit and then 120 grit sandpaper.

I then finished them with 2 coats of spray lacquer.

The final step was to cut a quarter inch groove into the tops of the 2×4’s to hold the plaques.  They are not glued into place to make for easy transport.
