Shop update #374 (1-8-25) Salt Cellars and shop insulation
We celebrated our family Christmas Party on Saturday so I was there pretty much all day. I try to make a handmade gift every year and this time I made a salt cellar and gave it along with some fancy sea salt to put in it. I made two in case I messed one up. I cut them on the laser, glued them up and let sit overnight, sanded everything flush on the belt sander with 120 grit, then hand sanded them with 220, and finished them with 2 coats of Mahoney’s beeswax and walnut oil finish.
When I installed the foam insulation in my garage door back in August, I faced the silver to the outside on the top row behind the windows so that it would look uniform from the outside. That top row not being silver on the inside bugs me everytime I enter the shop so I finally did something about it.
I took the top row out and spray painted them with gray primer to cover all the different colors. I let that dry for an hour and then gave them 2 coats of flat ivory to match the outside of the garage door.
I then reinstalled them with the ivory side facing out and the silver side facing in. I just need to pick up some foil tape and cover up all of the visible seams.
