Shop update #378 (2-5-25)

My son and I worked on his cell phone drawer unit this weekend.

We marked up each sub unit to make it easy to align the brad nails with the shelves.

We installed each shelf using glue and brad nails.

We made 8 of the 5 drawer units.  4 will be attached together to make 2 – 20 drawer units.   The carcasses will be painted black so we filled in the nails holes on the end units.

The drawers are a little loose.  I had an idea for the drawer faces that would help them line up but decided to laser cut 80 2″x 2″x 1/8″  squares that we will glue to the inside of each drawer opening instead.

I’m working on a new even smaller camp kitchen/chuck box that will be the size of a small suitcase.  (16″ x 12″ x 7″)  I bought all of the components on amazon and then drew out the inside of the box to make sure that everything fit in the real world before I started cutting all the plywood to size.  (The yellow square is there to keep the butane canister from rolling)

I got all of the pieces cut out of 1/2″ plywood and pre-stained them to see which side looked best.  I have had bad luck with trying to stain the inside of boxes so this will make it easier to get everything a uniform color.  My plan is to make this look like a small vintage suitcase.
