Shop update #380 (2-19-25) Eagle Court of Honor plaque and camp kitchen suitcase

I worked on the plaque all week for my son’s Eagle Court of Honor on Saturday and finished it just in time.  Kind of…

I got all of the pieces glued to together and while they were drying I sanded and stained a 32″ x 24″ piece of 1/2″ plywood.

Once everything dried, I glued the central logo down and then glued in all of the letters.

I then spray black lacquer on some trim pieces and glued and nailed them in place.

When I marked the places for the top letters, they didn’t line up properly so I had to reposition them and make new marks.  Once I glued them down I could still see the old pencil lines so I didn’t spray any finish on it and took it as is.

Nobody notice the pencil lines and I did not point them out, but I knew that they were there.  On Sunday, I sanded the worst of them off, re-stained those areas, and then gave the back 1 coat of spray lacquer and the front 2 coats.  I’m either going to donate it to the Troop or to one of our local leaders who gets invited to a lot of ECOH’s.

I’m going camping with the Troop soon so I am finishing up the suitcase chuck box/camp kitchen.  I sanded everything smooth and then gave it a fresh coat of stain and the 3 coats of amber shellac.

I also masked it of and sprayed the inside with lacquer.

Once that dried overnight, I installed the hinges, clasps, handle, and corner protectors.

It was a little too shiny so I scrubbed it down with some steel wool and gave it more of a matt finish.  I just need to make some removable inserts for the spices and silverware.
