Shop update #398 (6-25-25) 3D Printer Enclosure
I recently purchased 2 new 3D printers. They have been sitting on my outfeed table for a month and blocking any woodworking from happening in the shop. I have decided to close up the workbench area in my garage shelf unit and house them there.
I removed the wood from the top of the workbench area and cut it into 3 pieces and installed foam packing material under each piece to help with vibration.
I decided that I didn’t like that idea so I took them out and installed some scrap pieces of OSB back in that spot. I didn’t put the original pieces back in because the goal of this enclosure to try and keep as much sawdust out of it as possible.
I then installed some scrap pieces of 2×6 that have been cut down to 1 1/2″ by 1 1/2″ and started building the walls with more scrap OSB.
Once the walls were built up, I installed bigger pieces of OSB in the back. I had to trim one corner to account for a 2×4 cross brace.
I then put caulk everywhere that wood met together and could let in sawdust.
The next step was to build a shelf to hold all of the extra filament rolls.
As a temporary measure, I stapled in some 4 mil plastic sheeting to try and keep the sawdust out. I’m going to build some proper doors in the near future, but this should hold for now. I’m going to hot glue some magnets to the bench so that I can use other magnets on the outside to hold the plastic sheeting in place more securely.
