Shop update #452 (7-8-26) tailgate bench update

It was the 4th of July weekend here in the states and I was able to get some good progress made on the small Tailgate Bench.

I started by assembling the frame using glue and pocket holes screws.

I test fitted the Tailgate portion of the bench and everything lined up fine.  I was also afraid that it might be top heavy but it was surprisingly steady.

I took the 2 parts outside and gave them 2 coats of gray spray paint and let them dry overnight.

The next day I noticed that the brad nail holes in the lettering for the tailgate were very noticeable with the paint sprayed on so I filled them with some wood filler.

I let the filler dry for a few hours and then sanded it down and gave it another coat of gray paint.

While the paint was drying, I gave the seats slats a coat of stain and let that dry overnight.

The next day, I gave the frame 2 coats of white paint, and the tailgate 3 coats of green all over and 2 extra coats on all the edges.

The next day, I masked off the bottom of the frame so that I could paint the top braces green to match the tailgate.

I gave the slats a good coat of outdoor varnish and am going to let everything dry for the rest of the week.  Thursday night I plan on painting the CHEVROLET letters white to match the frame.
