Shop update #463 (9-23-26)

15 years ago, my father and I built a patio cover for the rear of my house.  It took 3 or 4 weekends and various friends and family stopped by to help us out.  It started leaking last summer and I have been putting off fixing it.  My father, my brother, my two sons, and I finally got it all fixed up this weekend.

The entire cover is 40′ wide and 14′ deep.  10′ of the left is lattice and 10′ on the right is lattice.  The central 20′ span is covered.  We cleared out about 1/3 of the central span of shingles and black paper.  We then cut out the bad sections of OSB.  A 6′ section of the front fascia board was also rotten on top.  We stopped by home depot and picked up 3 bundles of roofing tiles, a roll of black felt, 2 sheets of OSB, some fascia board, some Z flashing, some sealant, and some roofing nails.

We cut out and installed the OSB and the replacement fascia board.  We then installed the black paper, z flashing, and roofing tiles.  We started at 8:00 in the morning on Saturday and finished around 6:00 pm.  I can’t thank my father, brother, and sons enough for all of their hard work.

I still need to paint some sections and reinstall the ceiling but the hard part is done.

During the week, I gave the name plaques 3 coats of amber shellac and a light sanding.  On Sunday, I installed the hooks and eyes and tested them out in my dedicated spot to make sure that everything was installed correctly.  The scouts received their new name plate at the meeting on Monday night.
