Shop update #369 (12-4-24)
The desk organizer boxes were due yesterday so I pretty much spent the whole Thanksgiving break working on them.
I finished cutting them all out by the beginning of last week. I stopped by Harbor Freight on Monday and picked up a benchtop belt sander and a pack of 80 grit sanding belts. I ordered a combo pack of belts from Amazon with 80, 120, 150, and 220 grit sizes.
I used a 120 grit belt and sanded the insides of all of the boxes. I then spent the next 2 days gluing them all together and used all of the 6″ clamps that I own and most of the 12″ as well. I could glue and clamp 3 at a time and I made a total of 39 boxes.
Once they had all been glued up and dried overnight, I sanded down all the faces with 80 grit sandpaper on the belt sander. I went through 3 of the 80 grit belts.
I then gave them a finish sand with the 120 belt.
From there they were allowed to dry with a fan on them for 36 hours and I gave them a light sanding with a 220 grit sanding block to remove the nits and smooth them out. I gave them to the client yesterday and they were very happy with the results.
I’m still working on craft show items and took some beauty shots to send to the promoter.
