Shop update #450 (6-24-26)

I started working on my new tailgate bench this weekend.  You may have seen them online where someone gets a tailgate from an old truck and uses it as the seat back for a beefy bench.

This is not going to be one of those benches.

This one is going to be 40″ wide and about 15″ tall.  It is going to sit in the small alcove on my front porch and will be the place for delivery drivers to leave packages.  The tailgate portion is also going to be made out of wood instead of an old metal tailgate.

The tailgate is going to be made out of OSB that will be painted.  Why OSB?  Because I have a bunch of scraps and it is “free”.  I framed it in and will be cutting letters out to place in the middle.

I went to Home Depot and picked up 2 – 8FT 2×4’s and 3 cedar fence pickets.

I then cut everything down to length with the miter saw on my outside workbench.

I cut off one of the rounded sides on the 2×4’s and then cut them into 1 1/2″ wide pieces for the frame.

The next step was to drill pocket holes in everything but the 2 front legs.

Here are all of the parts to make the bench except for the back legs.  I got too excited with the table saw and cut them into 2×2’s…
