Shop update #112 (12-18-19)

I’m working on a business card holder for a friend to give to her boss for Christmas.  I started but cutting a piece of 3/4″ poplar down to 8″ x 5 1/2″.  The wood was decided on by the client.  I wanted to use some 1 1/2″ Walnut but she liked the lighter wood.  Over the course of a few nights, I gave it 3 coats of blue paint.

On Sunday, I carved the business name and card pocket on my X-Carve CNC machine and trimmed it down on the bandsaw.

I then evened the sides on the disc sander and gave it 4 coats of gloss lacquer.

Last week I watched a WWGOA video of a small reindeer being cut out of an 8″ piece of 2×4 and decided to give it a try myself.  It was a little rough with the blade that I have on my bandsaw so I’m going to switch it out with a smaller one this weekend.  I’m going to try and batch out a dozen more for my son to paint so we can give them out as presents on Christmas Eve.
