Shop update #141 (7-8-20)

During the week I designed a giant four in a row game (Connect Four) that can be built out of a single sheet of 1/2″ plywood.

I picked up a sheet of 1/2″ plywood at Lowes and had them cut it in half lengthwise so that I could fit it in my car.  I also bought a 4″ hole saw and shank.

Once I got it home I set the 2 halves on top of each other and cut out the sections for the playing pieces to slide between.  I also marked all the spots to drill out the 35 – 4″ holes.

I cut a test hole in a piece of scrap using the 4″ hole saw in my regular drill.  I just about broke my wrist trying to cut it out.

I went to The Home Depot the next day and bought a hammer drill that fits my battery system.  I then cut out the rest of the pieces of plywood on the table saw.

This is all the scrap that I had left after cutting the full sheet of plywood down.

I clamped the 2 large pieces together and proceeded to drill the hole with the new hammer drill.  It worked great in hammer mode but started to overheat after drilling out 10 sets of double holes.

I went in the house and ate dinner for a half hour while it cooled off and was then able to drill out 6 more holes before it got to hot again.  I will try and finish drilling the holes out during the week after I get home from work.
