Shop update #7 (12-27-17) Last Minute Gift Box
Sorry about the earlier post being blank, Christmas being on a Monday confused my schedule.
We do a gift exchange for the adults in my family on Christmas Eve. I try to build a gift or a gift box for it every couple of years. Last weekend was a bust because of my wife getting sick so I had to build my gift on the 23rd this year but I was able to get it done in time.
I started with a couple of cedar fence pickets and a small tool kit from Lowes.
I cut the picket down to length for the box top, bottom, and sides. I don’t have a picture handy but I cut the sides down on the bandsaw.
I glue and stapled the bottom on the box and then clamped the top so that I could install the hinges.
I sanded the inside of the boards before I assembled the box and then sanded the outside after assembly. I took one hinge off at a time and sanded the area around it.
I sprayed a total of 4 coats of polyurethane on the box with a light sanding before the last coat.
The new workbench is working out great. It’s nice to not have to move the mitre saw to free up room for assembly.
I forgot to download the picture of the tools inside the box and will add it here later tonight.
