Shop update #184 (5-5-21)

The side gate for my house is about 17 years old and has needed replacing for a couple of years now.  The whole thing sags, and the bottom board is rotting and the screws kept falling out so I had to replace them with quarter inch bolts.  The front boards are also starting to warp pretty badly

I went to Home Depot and bought 3 over priced 2×4’s ($8.00 each) and 1 over priced 2×6 ($12).

I cut them down to size and then trimmed the ends for half laps.

I assembled the frame using glue and 1 1/4″ screws for the half laps and 2″ screws for the cross support.  I put it up against the existing door and the measurement s appear to match up.

The final step for the weekend was to sand the frame down and then give it 2 coats of primer.  Can you guess what color I am going to paint it?

I use a handle for my spray paint cans to give myself better control.  I noticed that it was sticking so I scraped off a bunch of chips of built up paint.
